Gaskets, Seals and Shims Repair

Form gaskets in-situ to any contour

Problem: Corrosion between two mating faces often leads to a difficulty in ensuring an adequate seal.

Belzona Solution: Belzona 2000 Series Elastomeric Polymers are used to create custom made gaskets and seals of any desired shape or size.

Isolate cable, pipe or duct work entry points

Problem: Often conduit pipe or duct work entry points which penetrate walls, floors or roofs are fabricated from a dissimilar substrate than the surface through which they pass. Consequently differential expansion can make sealing difficult.

Belzona Solution: Belzona 2000 Series Elastomers, in conjunction with simple application techniques can be used to create the perfect seal between surfaces which expand/contract at different rates.

Create waterproof seals and flashings

Problem: Storage tanks suffer from corrosion of the underside of the base of the tank due to ingress of rainwater between the tank and the concrete base upon which the tank is supported. This situation is dangerous, since the corrosion is occurring in a position which is inaccessible and the results of which will only become apparent when the tank fails.

Belzona Solution: The appropriate Belzona 3000 Series Flexible Membrane is applied to create a flashing around the skirt of the tank. This flashing is bonded to the tank and also to the concrete base thus preventing ingress of water. Since the Belzona 3000 Series are micro-porous any water trapped beneath the tank will evaporate and dry out further helping the corrosion to stop.

Insulate flanges and spacers

Problem: Occasionally, when flange spacers are required, or where two pipework systems manufactured from dissimilar metals, come together, it may be necessary to ensure electrical isolation, in order to prevent electrolytic forms of corrosion from occurring.

Belzona Solution: Belzona 1000 and Belzona2000 Series products, due to their excellent electrical insulation properties, can be used to provide the required electrical isolation while, in many instances, providing a suitable gasket or seal at the same time.

Problem: Frequently, horizontally positioned flanges will trap water and hence suffer from accelerated corrosion. Over a period of time the strength of the flange will be reduced as its thickness is reduced.

Belzona Solution: Belzona 1000 Series Metallic Polymers can be used to cold bond reinforcement “Doubler Plates” to the existing surface in order to strengthen the otherwise useless - from a load bearing point of view - flange.

Re-form distorted flange faces

Problem: Where flange faces are distorted or badly corroded and are consequently difficult to seal, the conventional repair will usually involve hot work of some kind followed by machining.

Belzona Solution: Belzona1000 Series Metallic Polymers are used to take up the difference between two mating surfaces, effectively providing an irregular shim which, due to the product’s high compressive strength and non-shrink cure, will provide a high load bearing sealing face.

• Repair steamcut/wire drawn flange faces.

Re-from load bearing mating surfaces

Problem: In order to ensure that two mating surfaces effectively transmit or distribute load it is critical to ensure a maximum contact area between the two. This is in practice very difficult to do, without resorting to the labor intensive method of blueing and scraping and even this method would be virtually impossible if the mating surfaces were, for example, badly corroded.

Belzona Solution: The excellent compressive strength of Belzona 1000 Series Polymers can provide the ultimate in load bearing shims which due to the non shrink cure of the product can be tailor made to ensure 100% contact first time every time.

Create insulating
and/or self-lubricating linings for pipe support pads

Problem: When pipe supports or wear plates suffer from abrasion and corrosion their replacement can often be difficult due to operational constraints, since replacement often requires hot work.

Belzona Solution: Belzona have a range of products which can provide a cold repair or replacement solution for the differing types of support. These solutions range from simple bonding to load bearing supports and even self lubricating sliding supports.
