FANS

Rebuild fan blade leading edge abrasion damage

Rebuild fan blade leading edge abrasion damage

Problem: Where dust particles pass through a fan at high velocity the leading edges of the fan blades are damaged by erosion. This can lead to turbulence which in turn leads to increased erosion damage. It also causes imbalance of the fan which then causes damage to the bearings and shafting.

Belzona Solution: Rebuild and protect the leading edges of fan blading with the Belzona 1300 Series of erosion resistant ceramic polymers which are specifically designed to resist erosion caused by small particulates which become entrained within a fluid.

Protect fan blades against abrasion and corrosion

Protect fan blades against abrasion and corrosion

  • Protect intake vanes against corrosion and dust build up.

Problem: When a fan is operating in a wet or damp environment a common cause of failure of the equipment is the build up of solids on the surfaces of the fan blading. This build up of solids causes the fan to go out of balance and leading to failure of the bearings and shafting.

Belzona Solution: The rheological properties of Belzona 1341 (Supermetalglide) combined with its hydrophobic nature can greatly reduce the build up of surface contaminants which create these out of balance forces.

Protect housing against corrosion and abrasion

Protect housing against corrosion and abrasion

Problem: Corrosion of a fan and the internal surfaces of its casing takes place when the equipment is stopped. Abrasion of these surfaces, on the other hand, takes place when the fan is in operation, which means that any corrosion products will be removed when the fan is operated. The combined action of these two processes will drastically reduce the life of the equipment.

Belzona Solution: Protect all of the internal surfaces of the equipment with the Belzona 1300 Series Ceramic Polymers. By eliminating the corrosion process you will markedly reduce the erosion rate thus extending the life of the equipment.

Rebuild fan shafts

Rebuild fan shafts

Problem: Many industrial fans can be large and are usually situated in difficult areas such as in a roof space. Consequently when the shaft suffers damage, repair often requires heavy lifting gear and/or total disassembly of the fan. This can cause an enormous amount of disruption to plant operation in and around the location of the fan.

Belzona Solution: If Belzona 1000 Series Metallic Polymers are used in conjunction with Belzona Know-How, then the shaft can be repaired in-situ thus overcoming the need for heavy equipment and dismantling of the fan.

BLOWERS AND COMPRESSORS

Rebuild rotary vane compressor guide slots

Rebuild rotary vane compressor guide slots

Problem: The guide slots for the vanes can often become worn, corroded and/or clogged up causing the rotary vane compressor to become less efficient or seize up all together.

Belzona Solution: By coating the vane with Belzona 9411 (Release Agent) it can be used in conjunction with Belzona 1000 Series Metallic Polymers to reform the slot in which it operates. Once rebuilt and protected with Belzona, further problems are eliminated.

Rebuild rotary compressor casings

Rebuild rotary compressor casings

Problem: Compressor casings can suffer from corrosion due to the formation of condensation within the casings. On start-up the products of this corrosion process are removed by the action of the rotors and fluid flow within the casing thus creating a wear pattern which results in a loss of efficiency. Eventually the process will lead to a total failure of the compressor.

Belzona Solution: Protecting the vulnerable surfaces with Belzona 1000 Series Metallic Polymers will ensure that the corrosion process is halted. This, together with the erosion resistance of Belzona polymers, will extend the effective working life of the equipment.

LIQUID RING BLOWERS

Rebuild and protect rotors

Rebuild and protect rotors

Problem: Dependant on operational situations rotors can be subjected to erosion in the form of cavitation and entrainment (solids entering the liquid ring). They are also often subjected to various forms of corrosion particularly when they are shut down or in standby mode.

Belzona Solution: Dependant upon the predominant problem protection with a suitable Belzona 1300 Series Ceramic Polymer will eliminate all forms of corrosion and will extend the useful operational life of the component by reducing the effects of the erosion process. If the problem is found to be predominantly corrosion then Belzona 5811 (Immersion Grade) has been used very successfully for the protection of these components.

Restore pump cone clearances

Restore pump cone clearances

Problem: Liquid ring pumps or blowers owe their operational ability to the fine clearances between the stationary and rotating parts. It is this fine clearance which separates the suction side of the equipment from the discharge side. Therefore if this clearance is increased due to erosion or corrosion then the equipment will stop working.

Belzona Solution: In this particular design the critical tolerance lies between the cone and the internal diameter of the rotor. Any deviation in this critical dimension due to erosion, corrosion, or actual contact between the cone and rotor due, usually to a bearing problem, can be restored by rebuilding with a machineable-grade of the Belzona 1000 Series Metallic Polymers.

Reform end covers

Reform end covers

Problem: Dependant upon the fluids which are being handled by the blower the usual problems suffered by headers and end covers will be fluid impingement and entrainment erosion. The former problem is a result of high velocity fluid moving over the internal surfaces of the equipment and the latter by any solids which become entrained within the liquid ring.

Belzona Solution: The outstanding erosion resistance of Belzona 1300 Series Ceramic Polymers has been proven to reduce the effects of these erosive forces thus extending the operational life of the equipment.

Repair and protect casings

Repair and protect casings

Problem: Dependant upon the fluids which are being handled by the blower, in addition to the problems of impingement and entrainment, chemical attack can also degrade the internal surfaces of the equipment.

Belzona Solution: The outstanding erosion, corrosion and chemical resistance of Belzona Polymers has been proven to reduce the effects of these forms of attack thus extending the operational life of the equipment.

Repair and protect valve plates

Repair and protect valve plates

Problem: Liquid ring pumps or blowers owe their operational ability to the fine clearances between the stationary and rotating parts. It is this fine clearance which separates the suction side of the equipment from the discharge side. Therefore if this clearance is increased due to Erosion or Corrosion then the equipment will stop working.

Belzona Solution: In this particular design the critical tolerance lies between the valve plate and the end of the rotor. Any deviation in this critical dimension due to erosion, corrosion, or actual contact between the cone and rotor due, usually to a bearing problem, can be restored by rebuilding with a machineable-grade of the Belzona 1000 Series Metallic Polymers.

FILTERS AND SEPARATORS

Seal and protect air receivers

Seal and protect air receivers

  • Protect air dryer columns against corrosion

Problem: Filters and separators suffer from corrosion due to moisture which is entrained within the gas stream. This moisture condenses on the internal surfaces of the equipment and the resultant corrosion gradually reduces the wall thickness of the component.

Belzona Solution: Dependant upon design the affected surfaces can be protected by the application of a Belzona 1000 or 5000 Series Protective Coating.

ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT

Rebuild and protect inter-cooler tube sheets

Rebuild and protect inter-cooler tube sheets

  • Rebuild and protect inter-cooler heads

Problem: Intercooler tube sheets suffer from bimetallic corrosion due the fact that the tubes are usually manufactured from a different material than the tube sheet.

Belzona Solution: Belzona’s Know-How System Leaflets, which are available from your Belzona Technical Consultant, will guide you through the procedures required to protect equipment affected by corrosion.
