The Evolution Of Industrial Coatings
Industrial coatings are a branch of the coatings production that covers almost 50% of the annual statistics. They are usually formulated and produced for specific needs of the industries and manufacturers often choose to sell them directly to the end used through retail outlets.
As seen in the late years, the industrial coating production has focused on water based paints rather than the solvent based ones. This happened and is continuing to increase in practice due to the fact that water based technologies in producing industrial coatings are far more efficient from an environmental, health and safety perspective.
Technical innovations in any science-based industry are slowly but continuously taking place and when it comes to industrial coatings some significant new trends have manifested themselves over the last few decades. And these innovations had to do with both the materials and the methods used in production. Obviously, industrial coatings from nowadays are a lot safer and easier to produce than they were in the past.
This change in the industrial coatings production started back in the '60s as a result of the increase of concern regarding the effects on the natural environment and the dangerous effects of the solvent emissions. The technologies which evolved as a result of that can be easily categorized into a few groups: improved low solids (<70%), solvent-based systems), high solids systems (<70%), solvent-based systems), water-borne coatings reactive (two-part catalyzed) systems), powder coatings radiation cured systems (ultra-violet and electron beam).
All in one, this evolution in industrial coatings production has been really effective and luckily enough the natural environment as well as our own lives are now safer due to the minds of those who research the issue.
