How To Apply, Finish And Remove Silicone Sealants

When dealing with silicone sealants, one has to keep in mind some tips regarding the proper use of this substance, how it can be applied, removed or how one can add a nice finish to it. In order to apply silicone sealants properly, it is advisable for you to use a silicone gun. A typical silicone gun has a trigger, a release tab and a pressure rod. Loading the gun can be tricky. You first have to insert the silicone tube but in order to do that you have to press the release tab and pull the pressure rod back. Then, squeeze the trigger gently until the rod makes contact with the diaphragm. Be careful not to squeeze the trigger too hard otherwise the silicone will leak out of the nozzle.

Before getting started, make sure the surface is dry, free of debris, dust or old silicone sealants. Applying the silicone requires precision in positioning the applicator nozzle against the surface and squeezing gently the trigger until the substance starts to come out. After that, just move the applicator nozzle along the surface and try to keep a measured pace while doing that so that the sealant is evenly applied.

Once applying the silicone sealants gets done, you need to start thinking of how to get a nice finish. The easiest way is to use your finger. Wet your finger so that the sealant doesn't stick to it and just run it accros the surface where you applied the substance. It will leave a smooth even coat. For this purpose you can also use a piece of rubber pipe or a similar object. If you want to remove silicone sealants, use a craft knife. Slide the knife behind and under the silicone coat, keeping the blade against the surface, slice the silicone and then peel off the pieces.
