Burst Pipes Repair

Any kind of pipes repair from pressure burst pipes to frozen pipes that burst can be done without headaches if you know what tools to use and how. Following, there are the first steps you need to take in order to do your pipes repair yourself and some useful tips. The first thing you need to do is prepare the place where you are going to work. Normally, you should begin by shutting off you water as faucets, stopcock, valves and water heating units. Then you can begin draining out any excess water. What you need to do next, is find the burst area of hole. This might be a little tricky, because if the pipes are in a slanted position, you will see that the hole is not necessarily right over top the water leakage puddle. Also, in this case the water may have been running downhill from another break.

So don't hurry and thoroughly investigate the whole pipe inch by inch. If you find the burst and discover that it is only a tiny puncture or splice, try to do the pipes repair by using lengths of copper pipe that are threaded at the ends. These are called proprietary slip on couplers. Such parts can be found at any store that has plumbing supplies, so you can call in advance to check whether they have it. When you are in the possession of the couplers you can focus on the burst section again. Cut away the section with the burst or hole in it by using a pipe slice, a pipe cutter or a hacksaw. After cutting back, you have to get a good rounded piping area so as to be able to connect it with your new piece. Make sure that you do not leave any of the damaged area behind. If you do this, the pipe will be weak in that spot in the future and the most likely to burst again.
