Belzona 1523

High temperature spray-applied epoxy coating for internal lining of equipment operating under continuous immersion conditions, which provides outstanding corrosion resistance.

Belzona 1523

A 2-part spray-applied epoxy coating designed to provide long-term corrosion and chemical resistance to equipment operating in continuous immersion at temperatures up to 140°C (284°F). This 100% solids coating has a long overcoat window and its cold curing mechanism with full in service cure reduces downtime and ensures rapid return of equipment to service.

Belzona 1523 is easy to mix and apply using heated airless spray equipment, allowing large areas to be quickly and effectively protected.

Key benefits:

  • Outstanding corrosion protection of high temperature equipment, suitable for continuous immersion in water and hydrocarbon mixtures up to 140°C (284°F)
  • Excellent chemical resistance against a wide range of chemicals including hydrocarbons and amines
  • 2-coat application without the need for flash blasting between coats
  • Very light colours allowing easy inspection in dark vessels
  • Coating applied by heated airless spray for quick application
  • Application and cure at room temperature - no hot work involved
  • 100% solids material allowing it to be safely applied in confined areas
  • Reduces downtime due to its innovative post-cure mechanism activated at service temperatures - no separate post-cure needed
  • Withstands steam-out process up to 210°C (410°F) and rapid depressurisation
  • Excellent adhesion to metal surfaces and high retention of adhesion at elevated temperatures

Applications for Belzona 1523 include:

  • High temperature epoxy coating for oil and gas production equipment such as separators, flare knock-out vessels and evaporators operating under immersion
  • Corrosion protection against a variety of chemicals in high temperature equipment including boiler vessels, condensers and heat exchangers

How do you apply a high temperature epoxy coating?

The application method for a high temperature epoxy coating depends on the product type and the geometry of the equipment being protected. Spray-applied systems such as Belzona 1523 are typically applied using airless spray equipment. This method is ideal for large vessels, separators and production equipment where a uniform film build and efficient coverage are required. Spray application allows controlled thickness over large surface areas and is well suited to shutdown projects with tight timelines.

Hand-applied systems such as Belzona 1593 are applied using brush or applicator tools. These are often chosen for complex geometries, detailed areas, nozzles and repairs where spray access may be restricted. Hand application also provides excellent control in confined spaces or when working around internal components. For full application information please check the information for us sheet (IFU).

Can Belzona 1523 be used for continuous hot immersion service?

Yes, spray applied high temperature epoxy coatings are suitable for continuous immersion service in water and hydrocarbons at elevated temperatures. Belzona 1523 offers outstanding corrosion protection up to 140°C (284°F).

How long do commercial grade, high temperature epoxies take to cure?

The cure time usually depends on the specific product and on ambient temperature. Belzona 1523 cures at ambient temperature, and post-curing is generally unnecessary as full cure is achieved in service. However, controlled post-cure between 50°C (122°F) - 100°C (212°F) can be used to accelerate return to service where required.
