Corrosion is the destruction of metals or alloys by chemical or electrochemical reactions from the surrounding environment especially the destruction performed by oxygen, process called oxidation or by water, process called rusting. To avoid corrosion there are several metal corrosion protection materials. Metal corrosion protection materials are usually made by the so called corrosion inhibitor, a chemical compound which is added in diverse concentrations to the metal, so that the effect of rust to be stopped and do protect the metal from further attacks. Fretting - very common, the corrosion only takes the surface of the metals without expanding in the interior of the metal corroded. Usually if you rub it from the surface you can see that the interior metal has not been attacked.
Galvanic - is the result of localize corrosion between two different types of metals; this corrosion is produced by the chemical effects that interact between the two metals, because of the different electromotive force potentials.
Uniform - the corrosive process has taken a larger surface area of the metal and the metal corrosion protection materials cannot stop the corrosion process. Other known types of corrosion are intergranular, exfoliation and stress corrosion. All this corrosion types tend to loosen the electrical metal conductibility, cracking and increased residual tensile stresses.
