Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI) costs industry a fortune every year in lost production and repairs. This type of corrosion can cause failures in areas not normally of primary concern. The failures, often the result of localized corrosion, can be catastrophic in nature or at the very least have a serious economic effect in terms of downtime and repair.
CUI is difficult to detect because the insulation cover masks the problem. Whenever CUI is identified through inspection techniques such as Ultrasonics, Infra-red, Radiography or simply visual inspection after removing the insulation, the corrosion found requires treatment.
Belzona® 1251 and Belzona® 5851 have been developed specifically to repair and protect metal surfaces suffering CUI without interruption to the plant operation as they are designed for application directly onto hot surfaces (70-150°C/158-302°F).
Both products are single component, heat activated and solvent free. They only begin to react and solidify at temperatures above 70°C (158°F). In addition they are extremely tolerant of less than thoroughly prepared surfaces providing outstanding adhesion and corrosion protection.
